On November 17th at 9:00 p.m. the most frighting thing happened. It was time to change Ellie's diaper. There was a very noticeable rash all over her body, as if she was having poor circulation and it was just getting worst. The family rushed to the Children's Hospital immediately. When they arrived to the emergency room, the nurses and doctors couldn't get a reading on her blood pressure. The physician's first thought it she had a infection. They tired everything and still couldn't figure out what was happening to her.
After a few hours went by they finally had to take her into the neonatal intensive care unit. While the family was waiting, the doctors told them they believe her bowels were twisted. This is when medical physician's suggested us to let them open her up to fix it, which is called a exploratory surgery.
However at that moment, the medical staff warned the family that there was a chance she wouldn't make it through the surgery because Ellie was so weak. The family knew that she was dying and was eager to fix any issue.
Its November 18th bright and early in the morning approximately 6:00 a.m. The family has been waiting went in the waiting room. Ellie's surgery has lasted for two hours. Eventually the surgeon came into the waiting room and told us that our baby made it through surgery. The surgeon then said, "I don't want to get your hopes up, she is however very ill...". The surgeon then explained to the family that the Ellie's bowels wasn't twisted after all.
The medical team took a tiny piece of her liver, due to it having strange dots all over it. This is the moment when it was decide to do a biopsy. The most hopeful moment to potentially finding an answer of whats going on to Ellie.
The family was yet again were moved to another waiting room. As time felt like enteral left with nothing but their own thoughts running wild in their heads. A nurse finally comes into the room, stating "She doesn't have much time left and shes going to need her parents to let her know that everything is okay." This was the worst nightmare that the family had been fearing of, and praying for not to happen.
The family entered her little room, to spend time with her before they took her off the life support. She was so motionless, The mother tired to get her to grasp my finger. When she didn't, it just broke her heart more. She was practically dead when they saw her. The doctors asked the mother if she wanted to hold Ellie when they took her off the ventilator machine. The mother couldn't bring her self to do it, she was beyond distraught and in denial. The father held the baby, as the breathing tube was removed. The nurses warned the family that her heart is beating extremely slowly, so they don't know how long she'll be alive after they take her off the breathing tube. Short moments past she died immediately...on November 18th morning.
They said her death was caused by acute liver failure. We didn't really know for sure if that was the real cause we asked to get a autopsy to be done.
